Pawapuri is slightly over an hour drive from Nalanda. It is the place where 24th Tirthankara Mahavir attained salvation in 527 B.C. He got enlightenment at 42 and gave up his body at 72.
Reached at 3ish when the sun was just above this board so could not avoid the rays. Board is self-explainatory.
In the centre of water body is temple. Devotees use this path to reach the temple. Temple marks the exact spot where Mahavir was cremated.
Side view of the temple ie made in marble. The temple has footprints of Mahavir (means the conqueror).
Another view of the temple. On the right is temple entrance. Brother of Mahavir King Nandivardhan built a small temple at this very place. The temple has got renovated from time to time.
Fountain on east side of temple. Entire temple is in marble. There is a walk way all around the water body. Not too many people when I visited in mid February.
Another view of temple. On right you can see toran. Water body needs to be cleaned.
A view of the temple and water body. Very peaceful place though must admit did not experience powerful vibrations like I did at Bodhgaya.
