We were here to see the Triveni Sangam in Prayag. It is the holy confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. The Kumbh Mela is held here every 12 years. Bargain hard with the boat people. They started with Rs 800/ for a ride to Sangam, we eventually paid Rs 250/. You can faintly see the rising sun in the background.
A view of the Ghat from the boat. We took a boat from this ghat. First you sail through the Yamuna River which is deep and bluer. After a while you reach the Sangam.
You see devotees getting ready to take a dip at the Holy Sangam. Up to a point the water is deep then it gets very shallow on the Ganga side. Shallow enough to walk through. The Government has made parking spots from where devotees can get into the water with the support of bamboos. My wife and I had half a dupki ie dip in the Sangam.
You see wifey standing in the water at Sangam. The happiness shows on her face. She called her parents and elderly relatives to share happiness with them. It was like a dream come true.
Wifey with our boat man Om Prakash. We gave him an Rs 50/ tip for bringing us to the holy Sangam. In the background you can see a blurred structure. Well you can reach that point by walking from the ghat and then walk your way here through the water.
Prayag gets devotees from all over India. You see a group of devotees from Andhra Pradesh. It is Veda Vyasa who introduced the Tirth Cult, the magnetic force that attracts people from Kerala or Kashmir to have a dip in the holy Ganga.
You see devotes from West Bengal eagerly listening to a learned man. We had really tasty puri aloo on the ghat, that too for a princely sum of Rs 10/.
