17 kms before Almora is the Sun Temple Katarmal. It is on top of a hill, quite a drive. Was told easier if one walked up. From point where we parked the car is about a 10 minute walk.

From Kasari Devi Mandir took this pic. Sun Temple is in the centre of pic on top of hil.

U see main temple with shrines in front. There are temples on left and right side of main temple. It has a curvilinear shikhara of Nagra style with square Garbhagriha while the Antralas and 2 Mandapas were added on later.

A front view of the shrines opposite the main temple. Totally there are 45 miniature shrines in the group.

Went on top of the hill to get a side view of the temple. U can see shrines on both sides. It is the one of the biggest and tallest temples of the region.

View of shrines on left side with main shrine behind. No carvings on temple shikara. Entrance of main temple had carved wooden doors which have been removed and kept in the National Museum Delhi.

East facing view of the temple.

Close up of shrines on left side of pic.

A view of smaller shrines and main temple from the western side.

A view of the main temple curvilinear shikhara. Dome is similar to temples of Baijnath, Bageshwar and Jageshwar.
