1. Back side or east facing view of fort. On right of pic see steps going upwards.

2. East view corner of fort. Note temple at end of fort wall. See waterbody and steps. All forts have waterbodies.

3. Blue City View from top of fort. Exit left of pic is way down to blue city. Extreme right of pic white colour is Shree Chamunda Mata Temple. A garden was being made when I visited in 2013. See waterbody on right of pic. Note different level of fortifications.

4. Fatehpol. "Rao Jodha (ruled 1438-89) began to build a fort at a new site 6 miles to the south of Mandore, on an isolated rock with a higher elevation & better natural defences. Jodhpur, the town that sprang up at its base, was named after him. Mehrangarh means `Fort of the Sun` a ref to the Rathore`s descent from the sun god Surya."

5. Fatehpol, is east facing entrance, was built in 1719 to commemorate the recapture of Marwar from the Mughals in 1707. Mughal downfall accelerated after death of Aurangzeb. Now days entrance by road from west side but this earlier entrance. Ditto in Chittorgarh.

6. View of fortification walls and palace above. “Fort stands a hundred feet in splendor on a perpendicular cliff, four hundred feet above the sky line of Jodhpur. Burnished red sand stone, imposing, invincible and yet with a strange haunting beauty that beckons.”
