1.Gujari Mahal, view from top of fort. “Raja Man Singh came vis–à–vis with beautiful Gujjar girl named Ninni on a hunting expedition. She agreed to become his queen on 3 conditions. The palace was built by Man Singh for his beloved queen Mrignayani. The king called her Mrignayani due to her beautiful eyes as that of deer.”

2.Entrance to Gujari Mahal. “In the year 1913, the then Maharaja of Gwalior State Shri Madhav Rao Scindia formed an Archaeological Department and appointed Shri M.B. Garde as Director of it . The decision to establish a museum in Gwalior was taken in 1914.”

3.Entrance – on either side are lions, Morena 13th century A.D. “Subsequently, ancient objects were collected from various places of the Gwalior state from 1914-20. In the year 1922 the museum was inaugurated.”

4.View as I entered mahal. Left is end of Gopachal Parvat. Statues very well displayed. “The archaeological heritage displayed in the museum is comprised of stone sculptures, terracotta figures, stone inscriptions, copper plate inscriptions, coins, bronze sculptures, paintings, arms & weapons and excavated material.”.

5.Sri Ram – Sita Morena, Madhya Pradesh 11-12 century A.D. Album focus is on sculptures. Keep about two hours to enjoy museum. It has 28 galleries and about 9,000 antique pieces.

6.TRIMURTI, Padavali district Morena 13th century A.D. Padavali temple Morena is a must see. 3 conditions were, “Equal status (no purdah), Permission to accompany Raja even in the battleground & Separate palace with the incessant supply of waters of river Rai from her village. She believed that it was water from that river that had made her strong and beautiful.”

7.Two faces SUN, Pavaya, 5th century A.D.

8.Lion Pillar, Udaygiri, Vidisha, 5 century A.D.

9.Gajasur Vadh, Kota Shivpuri, 7-8th century A.D.

10.I loved this. VARAHA, Badoh district Vidisha, 11-12 century A.D.

11.Four-headed Brahma, Besnagar Vidisha, 7-8 century A.D.

12.Jain Chatustika, 12 century A.D., Gwalior.

13.Tirthankar, Gwalior Fort, 12 century A.D.

14.Vaman, 10 century A.D.

15.Parvati, 10-11 century A.D. Missed seeing a panel “dating back to the 5th century from Pawaya that depicts the dance and music forms of the Gupta period and Shalbhanjika.

16.Gajasur Vadh, Vidisha, 13 century A.D.

17.Harihar, Mandsaur, 13 century A.D. Missed seeing the replicas of the frescoes of Bagh caves and a figurine of Genghis Khan are other interesting artifacts.

18.Narayan, 11-13 century A.D.

19.Dancing Ganesha, Padmawali district Morena, 13 century A.D.

20.Hanuman, Ladhedi district Gwalior, 20 century A.D.
