1. Aerial view of City Palace complex lit up for Diwali. Vertical view of palaces. Complex has Shiv Niwas Palace, Fateh Sagar Palace and City Palace. Left is Pichola Lake. Maharana Udai Singh laid the foundations. Palace construction was in 2 main phases. One was from the late 16th to the early 18th centuries. Two was from the late 19th to the early 20th centuries.

2. Another aerial but horizontal view of palaces. Centre of pic on hill top is Sajjangarh Palace. Lovely drive, great view of Udaipur from there. Left is Pichola, right is Fateh Sagar Lake. Udaipur is known as The City of Lakes.

3. Aerial view of City Palace Complex lit up. In water are Jag Mandir and Lake Palace.

4. Extreme left is Jag Mandir. Centre of pic Sajjangarh Palace on hill. Next is Lake Palace. Behind is Fateh Sagar Lake. Extreme right is City Palace complex. Other lakes close to Udaipur are Udai Sagar, Jaisamand, Rajsamand etc. Note all dams were made for irrigation and water supply not for beautification. Also, dams are always made between 2 hillock`s at either end.

5. City Palace centre of pic. Wish there were trees in town. Small hillock you see is Macchla Magra. It has Karni Mata Temple on the top. Sunset view from there is spectacular. A ropeway takes you to temple. One gets a great view of Pichola Lake, City Palace Complex and more from here.

6. View of City Palace Complex from Pichola Lake side. Right green patch is hill, on top of which is Karni Mata Mandir. Best time to see this is at sunset when the setting sun’s rays fall on the Palace and lights are about to come on.

7. See Pichola, huge lake is Fate Sagar. Pratap Singh Mehtaji, who grew up in Udaipur says, “Between Pichola n Fateh Sagar, small lake is Swaroop Sagar. It is connected to Fateh Sagar by a man-made canal Thomson canal (few knows its original name today). Fateh Sagar overflow joins Ayad river that flows into Uday Sagar. Overflow joins Banas river that joins Chambal which joins Ganga.”

8. This is Manek Chowk. Right of pic is Tripolia gate as it consists of three adjacent gates. Maharana Sangram Singhji II constructed it in 1713. The oldest part of the Palace has a temple of Dhuni Mata where the Maharana was blessed. Captions by Editor. City Palace Complex is very well maintained.

11. When u cross Tripolia Gate you enter Manek Chowk, City Palace. In front of palace tourists sit and see the Light & Sound Show i.e. about 7pm. The show is a journey through the glorious history of Mewar through 15 centuries.
