Jaisamand Lake is the largest artificial lake in Asia. It is 48 kms from Udaipur. Took a bus about 6.30 am to reach by 7.15 ish. Yellow building is Rajasthan Tourism Hotel. Structure
on extreme right is a water pumping station. White structure are Chhatri (cenotaphs) built by Maharana Jai Singh.
Lake was built by Maharana Jai Singh Ji (1653 to 1698). It was completed in June 1691. He built this lake while making a dam on Gomti river. Lake covers an area of "36 sq kms, stretches to
the length of 14 km and width of 9km. The lake is deep to the maximum of 102 feet and has a circumference of 30 miles".
View from boat. The lake has 6 cenotaphs carved from marble on its embankment (note white structure). Structure on
top of hill is Maharana Palace. It has 12 pillars and offers a super view of the lake. The climb daunted me from seeing it. Centre of pic is a ancient Shiv Mandir - Temple.
Overview of the resort. There is a separate palace for the Maharanis - Queens of Udaipur. The palace on the lake was the winter capital of the rulers of Mewar.
View of lake enroute. The lake has 7 islands. "The biggest island is known as `Babaka Bhagra` and the second one is known as `Piari`. One island is inhabited by the Bhil Minas." Hope to visit
the next time round.
Resort looked enticing. Since I went in early November slight chill.
Entrance with Ganesha. Left is pic of Maharana Jai Singh Ji who founded the lake. What vision and that too over 300 years ago. Today it supplies water to Udaipur and farmers for irrigation.
Showing pics of rooms. This is a Suite. Every room has a lake view. Resort is located on a 40 acre island and approachable thru a 4.5 kms boat ride.
Overview of rooms, swimming pool. Note lake water left of pic. After all resort is on an island.
View from one of the rooms. Center left of pic is palace on top of hill. Met a marriage photographer from Jaipur. He had come to shoot a pre-marriage celebration of a couple.
This is a deluxe room. Good place to relax and recharge yourself.
Swimming pool nice. I`d rather swim in the lake. Not sure if it is allowed.
View of lake. Left is hill and embankment. It is also known as DHEVAR Lake. Some caption details taken from www.udaipur.org.uk
Resort has a conference hall facility.
On way back. Look at the waves, loved it.
Lake has seven islands, this is one of them. U see reflection in water. Loved Jaisamand Lake. Great place to visit.
Another island in lake. A small hotel coming up on the island. Lake is close to a Wild Life Sanctuary that covers an area of 145 sq kms. It is 3 kms from the lake. "This sanctuary is the
habitat of innumerable species which include sloth bear, leopard, chital, chinkara, wild boar and a large number of the birds that breed here such as darter, open bill stork, pond heron, little cormorant and Indian Shag."
Loved the finely embroidered elephants on the embankment. Locals told me that when water level touches a pre-determined point on elephant`s foot water is released from the dam. Lovely.
Overview of ghat. I was done by 10.30ish. Had a short and great trip. View of Cenotaphs. Two must visit lakes near Udaipur on my next visit are Rajsamand and Udai Sagar.
