- An Introduction to
Reiki. It includes how Reiki works, five pillars of a peaceful life, what is
Reiki, steps to learning Reiki and five pillars of Reiki.
In an era where stress is a silent epidemic and our "always-on" lifestyle leaves us emotionally and physically depleted, many are turning to ancient wisdom to find balance. Amongst these traditions, Reiki stands out as a simple and profound system for holistic well-being. Derived from the Japanese words ‘Rei’ (Universal) and ‘Ki’ (Life Force), Reiki is the “Universal Life Energy” or Chetna Shakti that resides in all matter. It is not a religion, a cult, or a form of hypnosis. Rather, it is a spiritual practice and natural healing art that complements all faiths.
The following
insights are based on excerpts from the work and experiences of Aarti Gupta, a
Traditional Reiki Master, who began her journey in 1997 under the mentorship of
Ela Ghosh and then Dr. Paula Horan, a world-renowned authority who pioneered
the spread of Reiki across India.

The beauty of Reiki lies in its simplicity. A practitioner acts as a catalyst, a 'channel', allowing energy to flow through their hands to where it is most needed. While the intellect may struggle to grasp it, Reiki is understood in the "doing." The energy typically enters through the practitioner’s crown and flows out through the hands, targeting the body’s major energy centers or Chakras to release blockages.

Reiki offers a
"Holistic" benefit package, addressing the physical, spiritual, and
emotional layers of our being.
1. Physical
Vitality: It has shown to lower blood pressure, reduce stress, manage chronic
pain, and speed up wound healing.
2. Medical
Complement: It minimizes the side effects of conventional treatments (like
chemotherapy) and supports smooth pregnancies and healthy infants.
3. Emotional
Harmony: Reiki helps dissolve the "root causes" of psycho-neurotic
problems, including addictions and relationship disharmonies.
4. Spiritual
Growth: By balancing the seven chakras, practitioners often find they can
resolve 90% of life's "clutter" - from financial stress to lack of
purpose
The
Five Pillars of a Peaceful Life
At the heart of
Reiki are five principles intended to be practiced "just for today."
These serve as a spiritual medicine for many illnesses:
1. Do not be
angry. 2. Do not worry. 3. Be grateful. 4. Do your work honestly. 5. Be kind to every living thing.
Learning
to Walk the Path
Unlike many
skills, Reiki cannot be mastered through books alone. It requires a simple yet
sacred ceremony called an attunement, performed by a Reiki Master. This process
reconnects you to the energy source, effectively "turning on" your
internal healing radio. Once attuned, you can give self-treatments anywhere -
during a meeting, while traveling, or before bed, simply by placing your hands
and letting the energy flow.

While Reiki is a
personal practice, its energy is often multiplied when shared. In a Group Reiki
Healing session, several practitioners tap the Universal Life Force while
setting the intention as they channel Reiki to one person, creating a deep
sense of relief and calm for themselves as well as the receiver.
Inclusive Healing:
This gentle energy is safe for everyone. In our sessions, it is common to see
an infant resting in a lap, naturally absorbing the soothing vibrations while
the adults participate.
The Power of
Touch: Through Group Reiki Touch, the simple presence and focused intent of
multiple people create a powerful field of support that accelerates the feeling
of wellbeing.
Special Care for
All Ages: Reiki for Kids is a wonderful tool to help children stay calm, happy
and balanced. Similarly, in Palliative Care, Distance Reiki offers a
non-invasive way to bring comfort and emotional peace to those in sensitive
health conditions.
What
are the steps to learning Reiki
If you are curious
about learning, the path is broken down into three easy-to-follow stages:
Level 1 (The
Physical): You learn the basics of how to heal yourself and others through
simple hand positions. It is all about opening your own energy channels.
Level 2 (The
Mental & Emotional): This stage goes deeper into emotional healing. Most importantly,
you learn the art of Channeling Healing
energy to someone who isn't in the same room.
Level 3 (The
Master Level for Spiritual development): This is for those who wish to commit
fully to the practice along with their own spiritual development. At this
stage, you gain the ability to teach and pass the gift of Reiki on to others.

Many people wonder
how healing works without physical touch. Distance Reiki is based on the idea
that energy is not limited by how far apart we are.
During the
Covid-19 pandemic, Aarti was guided to evolve this practice into Online Reiki.
When the world was in lockdown, virtual sessions became a vital bridge to
health. Through a simple video call, as seen in our Online Reiki sessions,
seekers from across the globe can receive the same calming energy and training
from the safety of their homes. This shift proved that the heart's intent in
conjunction with the Universal Life Force is more powerful than any physical
distance.

Everything you
read about Reiki is merely knowing the path. To truly understand its power to
transform your health, career, and relationships, you must walk the path. As
you begin this journey, you move toward a life that is not just functional, but
whole and complete.
If you feel a pull
toward this "Gentle Art," even if you have not fully understood it,
here is how you can start:
1. Experience a
Session: Before learning, book a Receiving Reiki session, either in person or
online, to feel the energy for yourself.
2. Practice the
Five Pillars: Just for today: Do not be angry; Do not worry; Be grateful; Work
honestly; Be kind.
3. Start with Level 1: You don’t need any special skills to start. Level 1 is designed for everyone and focuses primarily on your own well-being.
4. Daily Practice:
Reiki is like a muscle; the more you use it on yourself, the stronger your
connection to peace becomes.
