- Article tells about importance of Karma
and Meditation, the Dada Bhagwan way.
Visualizing different things, focusing on
the kundalini and chakras with their colors, chanting mantras, concentrating on
the light, and paying attention to the breaths are considered different types
of meditation. However, the truth is that these are different forms of
concentration (ekagrata). Why so?
This is because we have to do it; it does not happen on its own.
In reality, meditation or dhyan happens on its own. Have you not heard a parent or teacher asking a kid, “Where was your attention while studying?” Nobody taught the child how and where to pay attention and yet the little one managed to focus on something else! It just happened! Similarly, meditation happens!
We try to concentrate on so many things.
However, there is no goal (dhyey)
decided.
Just decide the dheya (the goal) and meditation
(dhyan) will occur automatically. For example, if you decide that you want to
go to Mumbai, then what will be in your mind? Mumbai, of course! So, if you
decide a goal, your mind will meditate on that on its own.
In the aforementioned example, the kid has not decided to study. Thus, the kid’s mind will not pay attention to studying. Thus, meditation is an effect! The cause is the decision or goal made based on one’s knowledge.
Did you know humans are constantly engrossed in one of the four types of dhyan? Of these, two are adverse. Let’s explore them!
Adverse
Meditation: Artadhyan
Artadhyan is a mournful meditation that results in hurting one’s own self. This is usually done by worrying and suspecting. If you worry about what will happen if your loved one gets COVID, it is artadhyan. If you think, “What if I get COVID?” “Why these people are not serving well?,” and “Why the government is not taking proper actions?,” you are in artadhyan.
It is also artadhyan if you worry about your daughter, son, wife, mother, father, colleague, or anyone else. For example, if you worry as to how you will cope with the expenses of your daughter’s marriage, it is artadhyan. She is still young and worrying about the future is nothing but artadhyan.
If someone whom you do not like comes to your home to live with you for some days, you will instantly think, “Why he has come at this time? I wish he would leave.” Such an intent or internal bhaav (dhyan) is called artadhyan.
If you see or hear about a person doing injustice to another person or hurting another person by thoughts, actions, or speech, you will start feeling intensely, “Why is this person doing so? How can he do that to someone needy or miserable?” Well, this, too, is artadhyan.
However, artadhyan can stop if you get the
right knowledge of who
is the doer and why no one can have full control over your own life.
We all have experienced these feelings or
support such intents in our lives. Their occurrence is not a problem but
supporting them is! The moment you support them or become one with them, you
bind bad karmas. Do you know the fruit of these karmas? Well, your next birth
will be in animal kingdom.

Adverse
Meditation: Raudradhyan
“Raudradhyan refers to the adverse internal state of meditation that hurts the self and others.” - Dada Bhagwan
Adulterating products during shortage to earn more, unnecessary arguments with the motive of proving that “I am right”, and short changing customers in business are all examples of raudradhyan. Waiting for customers to visit your shop is artadhyan. Even if you are preoccupied waiting impatiently for them, it is still called artadhyan.
However, if you give an opinion only in mind or via speech, "He is a useless person," it is called raudradhyan. This is because you thought or said something totally negative or bad about that person. At this point, you should recollect that no one is useless. If not for your business, that person will be useful for someone else’s business.
The negative intents are the result of agnan (lack of knowledge). If you get
the right understanding (samaj) of how this world functions, you can easily get
rid of them. Here, you need to understand what this world is like.
If an individual is destined to be your
customer, she or he will purchase from you even if you charge sixteen and a
half rupees rather than sixteen. If she or he is not destined, then even if you
try to sell by charging fifteen rupees, she or he will not purchase from you. We
need to have this much faith! If this is there, even an economic crisis cannot trigger
artadhyan and raudradhyan!
If you see or hear about a person doing injustice to another person or hurting another person by thoughts, actions, or speech, you will start feeling intensely, “This person is a villain. He should suffer immensely one day.” Well, this is raudradhyan, as you are spoiling your intent to hurt that other person.
Here, you should understand who is at fault. The Enlightened Beings have said, “The
fault is of the sufferer.” The person who is hurting or doing injustice is not at fault right now; the one who is suffering is now caught for the intent spoiled in the previous life or doing the same act toward someone else with the unity in action and intent. The latter person is now encountering the same due to the result of her or his unfolding bad karma. The one who is hurting or doing injustice will be caught later by nature as per the intent kept while committing such an act.
“If misery results within you, it is artadhyan and when someone suffers from
painful result because of you, it is raudradhyan.” – Dada Bhagwan
It is raudradhyan to think or make an intent, “My neighbor should get COVID so that he understands the patient’s feelings before hurting them,” “This person deserves this beating (you are taking beastly happiness),” “This government is distracting people in the name of COVID and is useless,” or “This nation is ruthless so should be punished.”
Do you know the result of such dhyan?
Well, your next birth will be in the kingdom of hell. You will also involuntarily
end up inviting the same adverse experience for yourself.

The
Relative Solution: Dharmadhyan
Also known as the true or righteous meditation, dharmadhyan is a state wherein you have no negative intent or feeling towards anyone who is doing wrong or causes you harm. You do so by taking the support of the right understanding, "I encountered this act or person as a result of my karma."
This is helpful in tough times when people
continue to insult, yell, and hurt knowingly or unknowingly. With this
understanding, you instead bless the one who causes harm or insults you in
front of everyone. Why? This is because that
individual is releasing you from that unfolding karma.
Dharmadhyan is to have the understanding
that all sufferings or miseries you face are due to your own karmas and
mistakes. It also an auspicious contemplation of not hurting anyone and give
happiness to others. Do you know the result of such dhyan? Well, your next
birth will neither be in hell nor animal kingdom. The fruit of practicing such
dhyan is samyak darshan (enlightened vision or right belief of “I am pure Soul”), the first achievement towards Moksha.
“Not having the slightest abhorrence towards any nimit (instrumental doer) is dharmadhyan. When the intents of like and dislike arise in sensual pleasures (of 5 senses), keeping tolerance in it, (and) to not put blame on anyone is dharmadhyan. Any act which is done for others is considered as dharmadhyan.”– Dada Bhagwan
Many people believe that dharmadhyan is to
do worship, repentance, prayer, penance, introspection, and listening to
religious discussions. Well, they are all overt rituals or material practices. The
Lord does not consider your external actions but your attentive intent inside
at the time of your activities (kriya).
For example, if you are saying a prayer
for the welfare of the world but you are criticizing your sibling in mind for
some money issue at the same time, you will end up binding bad karma. This is
because it is not true meditation! Similarly, while worshipping God, if you are
looking at the murti of God but contemplate your own business or the shoes left
outside the temple, it is not true dharmadhyan! It is not even true meditation!
It is adverse meditation!
The actions being performed currently are
the result of the meditation (dhyan) done in your previous life. They indicate
your independent effort (purusharth) done in the past life, based on the
knowledge you had. On the other hand, the present-day meditation is the
independent effort for your next birth. In simple words, you are designing your
next birth!
So, where your dhyan or intent is at the
time of performing an action such as a ritual or cooking determines the type of
karma you bind.
“If anger-pride-deceit-greed occur, let them occur. There is nothing wrong if you have thoughts of bad conduct, do not be afraid, however, you must repent (do pratikraman) and turn it around, this will result in a high level of dharmadhyan.”- Dada Bhagwan
The Real Solution – Shukladhyan
This is the ultimate dhyan that remains spontaneously once you attain Self-Realization. It is a never-fading internal state of being in the awareness of “I am pure Soul.” This is because you now know that you are separate from this body and whatever is happening, it is happening to the body and the ego (the wrong belief of “I am <your name>”).
This happens through a scientific
Self-Realization process of two hours in the distinct and
exceptional path of Akram Vignan
(Stepless Science). With this Self-Realization that is the same as what Lord
Krishna gave to Arjuna, we can attain SAMADHI amidst aadhi (mental agony), vyadhi
(physical suffering), and upadhi (problems created for us by others) even in
this Kaliyug.
Once self-realized, whether insults come,
depression comes, or Corona comes, you remain in the eternal bliss of your
Soul. This is above dharmadhyan and releases you from the cycles of births and
deaths!
