Introduction

‘Home, Sweet Home’ is the place where a loving family stays together. Entering a new house is always an excitement. Hindus believe that each place has its own vibrations. Each place has a protector. Before entering the house, the protector of that place needs to be worshipped. Under his protection all the numbers can live freely and fearlessly in the house; evil spirits do not trouble them. Such is the belief of Hindus.

So, Vastushanti Upasana – a ceremony performed at the time of entering a new house- includes propitiation of the house protector, offering sacrifices to the sacred fire, burying or installing the image of the protector of the house and resolution to lead a happy, healthy, fulfilling life in the new house.

This ceremony can be conducted by any senior person of good character, gentleman or lady, belonging to any caste, creed or religion. May this English translation of the sacrament of Vastushanti be helpful to those who are residing in or outside India. May piousness be added to the happiness of their houses.
