• Know why the Guru–Shishya Parampara and Sanskrit are India’s enduring legacy.

On the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, celebrated on 29th July 2026, I dedicate this article with profound respect and gratitude to all my Gurus, whose guidance, wisdom, and blessings have shaped my life and inspired my journey of learning.

Sanskrit and the Guru–Shishya Parampara: India's Enduring Legacy

Before I write about Guru-Shishya Parampara, I would like to write few lines about importance of Sanskrit bhasha.

Asking why Sanskrit is important is like asking why parents are important, or why the Sun and the Moon are important. Sanskrit is called Dev-Bhasha (the language of the gods). It is the language of our culture, and to truly understand and imbibe that culture, we must know this bhasha (language).

Since childhood, many of us have heard that Sanskrit is a difficult language. It is simply a matter of perspective—just as one person sees a glass as half full while another sees it as half empty. With the right approach, Sanskrit is not difficult; it is beautiful, logical, and deeply enriching. Until and unless we taste a dish, we cannot truly know its flavour or identify its ingredients. The same is true of any language or subject. Without studying or experiencing it ourselves, we should not believe the noise or misconceptions surrounding it. We must explore it with an open mind before forming an opinion.

Sanskrit is not merely a language—it is the soul of Indian civilisation. It carries our history, philosophy, science, mathematics, literature, and spiritual wisdom. For thousands of years, the greatest ideas of our civilisation were preserved and passed down through Sanskrit.

To understand India's true intellectual heritage, one must know Sanskrit. It is not just a medium of communication; it is a way of thinking, a way of reasoning, and a way of seeing the world. Learning Sanskrit is not about going back to the past—it is about reconnecting with the timeless knowledge that continues to inspire humanity.

Sanskrit has profoundly influenced almost every Indian language. Its vocabulary, grammar, and literary traditions continue to shape the way millions of Indians speak and think today.

In today's world, many children are confused, disconnected from their cultural roots, and increasingly influenced by Western culture. Many aspire to achieve name and fame in the shortest time and by the easiest means possible, often without developing a strong spiritual foundation.

As adults, we have a responsibility to promote Sanskrit Bhasha, as it can help the younger generation reconnect with their cultural heritage, cultivate inner calm, and develop a deeper appreciation for spirituality, family values, and the timeless wisdom of Indian civilisation. By learning Sanskrit, they can build a stronger sense of identity while embracing modern life with balance and purpose.

Our children need to learn and understand the Guru–Shishya Parampara. Sanskrit Bhasha helps them understand the true meaning of the words “Guru” and “Shishya.” It teaches them the distinction between Dīkṣā (initiation) and Śikṣā (education). It also helps them understand the profound Mahāvākya अहं ब्रह्मास्मि (Aham Brahmāsmi), which means "I am Brahman"—that the true Self is not separate from the ultimate reality.

This understanding inspires children to realise that each one of us possesses immense potential and an ocean of knowledge within. Our true nature is often hidden by Māyā (illusion). Through right knowledge, discipline, and self-realisation, these layers of illusion gradually fall away, allowing our inner wisdom to shine.

In the year 2020, I had the opportunity to launch the world's first online Samskritam Homeschooling Platform in Bharat. During that time, I connected with hundreds of parents from across the globe who wanted their children to learn various subjects through the medium of Samskrit.

It was then that I realised there was a genuine desire among people to learn this language. That experience inspired me to continue facilitating Samskrit classes for interested learners of all ages, ensuring that anyone with the enthusiasm to learn has the opportunity to reconnect with this timeless language.

Then came the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes the promotion of Indian languages, including Sanskrit. Our Honourable Prime Minister Modi has consistently highlighted the importance of Sanskrit Bhasha and has encouraged people to appreciate its rich heritage and timeless relevance.

I would like to share one of his speeches with all of you:

In his speech, he describes Sanskrit Bhasha as our identity and a source of our development. This is a message that today's Generation Z needs to understand and reflect upon. 

Along with acquiring modern knowledge and skills, students should remain connected to their cultural roots, respect their Gurus, and uphold the values of the Guru–Shishya Parampara. Equally, teachers must guide their students with dedication, compassion, and integrity. When there is mutual respect between teachers and students, education becomes a transformative force that nurtures character, wisdom, and responsible citizenship.

On that note, I would like to conclude this article with a heartfelt appeal to everyone reading it.

Be inspired. Choose Sanskrit. Begin learning it, irrespective of your age, and encourage your children to learn it as well. By embracing Sanskrit Bhasha, we are not merely learning another language—we are reconnecting with our roots, preserving our cultural heritage, and opening the doors to an unparalleled treasure of knowledge, wisdom, and values.

Let us work together to revive the spirit of the Guru–Shishya Parampara, strengthen our family values, and inspire the next generation to take pride in India's timeless intellectual and spiritual traditions.

As our scriptures remind us:

सा विद्या या विमुक्तये।

"True knowledge is that which liberates."

May Sanskrit become a bridge between our glorious past and a brighter future for generations to come.

भवतु संस्कृतम् सर्वजनहिताय।
"May Sanskrit flourish for the welfare of all."
