- We share key excerpts from RBI’s Handbook of Statistics 2024-25. It starts with an Executive Summary. The Tables include state-wise population growth rate, state GDP, Irrigated Area, Production of Wheat/Rice/Pulses/Eggs, Consumption of Fertilizers and Tourist Numbers.

We present Executive Summary of Comments (2024-25 nos) followed
by Tables.
1. Population Growth
Rates in Bihar, Uttar P, Rajasthan, Madhya P, Jharkhand, Assam continue to grow
at higher rates. If naturally or because of demographic change requires further
investigation.
2. Net State Domestic Product- Maharashtra and Tamil N
retained first two slots. Uttar P moved from 3 to 4 and Gujarat from 4 to 5.
Karnataka moved from 5 to 3. Only Karnataka has doubled its NSDP in 10 years.
3. Gross Sown Area- Top 5 are Madhya P, Uttar P,
Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat. Punjab and Haryana come at number 7 and 9.
4. Net Irrigated Area- Maharashtra done well. Is the
increase across different regions i.e. Marathwada, Vidharbha and Western
Maharashtra? Punjab is at virtually the same number, focus is on free power.
5. Production of Wheat- Uttar and Madhya Pradesh are the
highest producers of wheat.
6. Production of
Rice- Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal are the three largest rice-producing
states. Punjab comes at number 4.
7. Production of Pulses- Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra,
Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh are the top pulse producing states. Can farmers be
motivated to produce more?
8. Consumption of Fertilisers- West, North and South
Zones are the highest consumers of fertilisers. Uttar P, Maharashtra, Madhya P,
Karnataka and Punjab are states with highest consumers of fertilisers.
9. Eggs production- Tamil N, Andhra P, Telangana, W
Bengal, Karnataka lead. What is so special about conditions that other states
cannot catch up?
10. Length of National Highways - Kms between 2014 and
2024 gone up by 60%. In % terms (column) 4, West Bengal and Bihar lagging behind.
Odisha has 5897 kms against W Bengal 3910.
11. While number of domestic tourists have increased, India
needs an Incredible India 2 Campaign to attract foreign tourists.

When we compare ranking between 2014-15 and 2024-25 Maharashtra and Tamil
Nadu retained first two slots. Uttar Pradesh moved from 3 to 4 and Gujarat from
4 to 5. Karnataka moved from 5 to 3. Only Karnataka has doubled its NSDP in 10
years.

Telangana was formed around 2010, so 2004-05 figures do
not exist. Punjabis are not rice eaters, rice is grown because of MSP.
Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal
