We shared Jodhpur albums on Heritage Walk, Mehrangarh Fort and Mandore Fort. This piece covers popular traditional shops/restaurants that serve delicious local favourites. Editor

Jodhpur is a city celebrated for its rich culture, heritage, stunning blue lanes, and unforgettable cuisine. In this cultural heart of Rajasthan, every street corner carries the aroma of spices, ghee, and slow-cooked tradition. From fiery snacks to royal feasts, Jodhpur offers an experience where every bite tells a story.

The cuisine of Jodhpur is shaped by its arid climate, bold flavours, long shelf-life dishes, and generous use of clarified butter, or ghee. Staples like Pyaaz kachori, Mirchi bada, Dal baati churma, Gulab jamun sabzi, and sweets such as Mawa kachori and Ghewar are not merely dishes, they are cultural signatures of the city.

Must-Visit Food Spots in Jodhpur are – (unless mentioned pics by Dushyant)

1) Janta Sweet House

A local shop famous for its crispy Pyaaz kachori, spicy Mirchi bada, and syrupy Mawa kachori. A visit here is almost a rite of passage for food lovers exploring Jodhpur.

2) Parihar Sweets

Known for its mouth-watering Ghewar. Interestingly, many locals in Jodhpur cut ghewar like a cake, a delightful and unique tradition.

3) Shahi Samosa

Located near the iconic Clock Tower, or “Ghantaghar,” this legendary spot serves oversized Samosas stuffed with spicy fillings. Pair them with their tangy imli chutney for the complete experience.

4) Shri Mishrilal Hotel

Famous for its creamy Makhaniya lassi and delicious Pede. It’s the perfect place to pause and soak in the charm, bustle, and colours of the old city near the Clock Tower.

5) Chaturbhuj Gulab Jamun

A beloved sweet shop renowned for its special Gulab jamuns, served warm and soaked in rich sugar syrup.

6) Shaandar Sweet Home

Popular for its unique Gulab jamun sabzi, Haldi sabzi. Their signature dishes are generously cooked in pure ghee, offering an indulgent and authentic Rajasthani dining experience.

7) Vijay Restaurant

Famous for its authentic Govind gatta sabzi, Chakki sabzi, special Kabuli and Rajasthan Thali.

Eating in Jodhpur is not just about satisfying hunger, it is about experiencing history, culture, and community on a plate. Whether you are standing shoulder-to-shoulder at a bustling food joint in the old city or enjoying traditional flavours in a family-run eatery, every meal reflects the soul of Jodhpur.

Stay tuned for Part Two, where I’ll be mentioning fine-dining options and some truly regal places to dine in Jodhpur.

Please note there are heritage food walks specially curated by guides for tourists who want to explore famous places to eat. Best time to visit Jodhpur is winters.
